Main Street Construction Information

Below is a summary of information regarding the utility paving work to be performed on Lower Main Street during the spring of 2017

Utility construction is scheduled to begin on or about the week of April 17th and will be completed sometime during the week of April 24th (weather dependent). Paving is scheduled to begin on Main Street on or about May 15 and the paving of Lower Main Street will begin sometime during the week of May 22nd (again weather dependent). The project is scheduled to be completed no later than June 30, 2017.

Traffic delays are necessary to complete specific construction tasks at each project location. One lane, and one way, traffic will be maintained on both Main Street and Lower Main Street during throughout the duration of the project. Traffic control and construction warning signs will be installed and maintained throughout project construction. Certified flaggers assisted by the Sunapee Police Department will manage traffic control during daily operations. Access to and from all residential, commercial, and school entities will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. A traffic control plan will be developed by the Contractor that is selected to complete the paving of both streets, with input and approval from the Highway Director, Police Chief and Fire Chief.

Traffic Control for Paving Projects
  • Main Street shall be completed in segments as shown on the map which will allow road closure for each specific segment
  • Lower Main Street projects (paving/drainage and water main construction) shall be one-way traffic from Route 11 west to the intersection of North Road.
  • Traffic control signs for paving projects to be installed by contractor prior to paving, and with approval from Highway Director & Chief Cahill.
  • Water Department to close Lower Main Street at School Street during water main construction.
  • Water Department to install sign package for water main construction and Chief Cahill to assist with digital message sign board at Route 11 intersection.
  • Water Department to notify School Street Abutters of temporary access up emergency school access lane.
  • Water Department to notify abutters and school of water main shutdown date and time.
  • Water Department and Highway Department to coordinate construction efforts and traffic control for municipal work to be completed prior to paving.
  • Transportation Director shall be notified prior to all paving activities on Lower Main Street to allow her to re-route buses to the Gym.
  • Highway Director to contact Ushers and Little Lakers Day Care.
