--  May 29, 2013  Sunapee Middle High School Students Participate in Annual Bartlett Prize Speaking Contest.

Seventy-one years after the Honorable John H. Bartlett (Governor of NH 1919 – 1921) established a prize speaking program in Sunapee for school children; students continue to present their memorized pieces in this annual contest which was held on May 29, 2013 at Sunapee Middle High School.

Students were judged on the following: interpretation, poise, diction, voice, memorization and the difficulty of the piece.

Senior Portia Eastman was awarded first place honors for her recitation of “Say Yes,” by Andrea Gibson. Freshman Rachel Malanga placed second with Sarah Kay’s “If I Should Have a Daughter” and Senior Megan Brewer third with an adaptation of “Shake the Dust,” by Anis Mojgani. Seventh grade student Uzma Malik won the middle school competition with her presentation of “Sheila Rae, the Brave,” by Kevin Henkes.
