Igneous Rock ID Lab

In this online lab, you'll be identifying twelve different igneous rock samples by their characteristics.
  1. Begin by reading through the Introduction.  At the bottom of the page will be links to each of twelve igneous rock samples.
  2. You will also need the lab report form; I will email this to you.
  3. As you work through the lab, fill out the form and submit it when you are done.

Some Hints:
#3 - If you read the introduction, this one should be easy!
#4 - Check out the close-up view.
#8 - It doesn't look like it, but this one has tiny air spaces.
#9 - It is not vesicular.  Look carefully at the close-up view and see if you can see anything that stands out against the red background of the rock.
#11 - It's worth looking at the close-up view!
#12 - It looks kinda crumbly, doesn't it?
